The Oxford Institute for Energy Study noted the achievements of the Ukrainian Energy Exchange in the wholesale natural gas market.
Recently, the Oxford Institute for Energy Study published the Ukraine-EU Gas Market Integration report, which examines the development of the Ukrainian gas market taken in conjunction with the EU countries. The report focuses on the role of the Ukrainian storage facilities that provided storage capacity for foreign companies last year.
The authors of the study also drew attention to the dynamic growth of natural gas trade volumes on the UEE, the launch of trade in short-term standardized products on the intra-day market and the one day in advance market, the introduction of pay on natural gas sales delivery carried out by a company from the Naftogaz group.
Inna Shcherbina, Chairman of the UEE Exchange Committee, noted that the UEE actively invests in the development of exchange-traded products to provide market participants with convenient and effective trading tools, taking into account the best European practices.
A new laboratory of IT technologies and robotechnics was opened at the Poltava Polytechnic - Cyber Robo Lab. The educational and scientific laboratory will also serve as a training base for the team of the WRO participants (World Olympiad in Robotechnics).
The laboratory is equipped with new furniture, laptops, a mobile whiteboard and a separate table to work with the TETRIX competition kit, which is a competition-extended version of the TETRIX MAX kit.
On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Poltava Polytechnic, the head of Ukrnaftagazservis Igor Vitrik presented the TETRIX MAX competition set. TETRIX MAX accessory kit includes 637 parts to build larger robots, solve more advanced engineering challenges. It makes it possible to develop the most complex mechanisms and multifunctional remote-controlled robots.
According to recent reports, Ukrnafta PJSC produced 112.5 thousand tons of oil and condensate and 81.6 mmcm of gas in February 2021. Average daily production of oil and condensate amounted to 4.02 thousand tons and gas - 2.91 mmcm. Compared to January 2021, these indicators grew by 0.8% for oil and condensate and fell by 1% for gas. The average daily oil production fell by 5.4% and natural gas production - by 10.5% compared to the indicators of February 2020.

Effective cooperation between business and education sector is under way. As part of the VII International Industry Forum “Increasing the Efficiency of Hydrocarbon Recovery at Oil and Gas Fields of Ukraine,” DTEK Oil&Gas handed over to the Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic National University certificate for the purchase of a new LED screen. Assistance in updating the material and technical resources of the University takes place within the Memorandum of Cooperation between DTEK and Poltava Polytechnic and is strategically important for high-quality training of specialists for the oil and gas industry of Ukraine.
UGS Operator of Ukraine starts reconstruction of the central block for connecting wells of the gas gathering station of the Chervonopartizansk UGS facility. The overall work price is UAH 83.7 million. The expected results are more safe and reliable operation of the gas storage, higher environmental standards, less time to change operating modes.
This project is only a small part of the Gas Storage Operator’s Gas Storage Development Plan. By 2029, the company plans to invest more than UAH 13.5 billion in the modernization of underground storage facilities.
Ukrgasdobycha JSC, a member of the Naftogaz Group, in January and February 2021 sent UAH 214.9 million of royalty payments to budgets of those local communities where the company recovers hydrocarbons.
Following the VII International Industry Forum, we received many requests to post the report by Yuri Nagornyak, Executive Director of the Oil and Gas Association of Ukraine, for free access. You can get the record of the report at https://youtu.be/00XfUcmgrsE
Among the issues which are the subject of the report are the following:
- What will make the domestic oil and gas industry competitive?
- What is the future for decarbonization, decentralization and digitalization?
- Prospects for hydrogen use.

On March 10, the Poltava Engineering Center in close cooperation with the Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic National University successfully organized the VII International Industry Forum "Increasing the efficiency of hydrocarbon recovery at oil and gas fields in Ukraine." The Forum was held in the modern Center for Culture and Student Creativity of the Yuri Kondratyuk National University equipped with the latest technologies, which made it possible to accommodate almost 200 Forum participants in compliance with all anti-epidemic requirements.
Among the guests of the Forum were representatives of Ukrainian and international producing, drilling and service companies and industry institutions, authorities, specialized associations and public associations, teachers and students of the University and the Poltava Professional College of Oil and Gas.
The Forum consisted of three sessions dedicated to production, resource base development and intensification. In total, 15 reports were delivered by leading Ukrainian and foreign industry experts.
A round table meeting was held within the framework of the Forum, bringing together specialists around two topics: "Geological education of the XXI century" and "Improvement of educational programs in the Well Drilling specialty.
The Poltava Engineering Center expresses sincere gratitude to the partner companies of the Forum - DTEK Oil&Gas - DTEK Oil&Gas Wellsite Digital, GEO ALLIANCE GROUP, Fidmash NOV, FID Group and hopes to maintain a good tradition - annually in March and September create a platform for effective professional communication.

GTSOU to reconstruct ten compressor stations. In accordance with the Plan for the Development of the Gas Transmission System 2020-2029, investments in the GTS infrastructure will amount to EUR 1.5 billion. The largest project will involve the reconstruction of ten compressor stations (CS). They were built in the 70s and 80s, but after being modernized, they will become the main compressor stations providing gas transportation for decades to come.
By the end of February, gas transit through Ukraine saw its quarter fall, GTSOU reports.
Gas transit to Europe in February 2021 amounted to 2,906 mmcm. This is 25% less than in January. The dynamics was affected by the market situation in the EU countries: increased demand and price volatility forced traders to actively withdraw gas from underground storages.
In total, transit volumes amounted to 6,769 mmcm of gas in January-February 2021. Of these, GTSOU transited westwards 6,111 mmcm of gas: to Poland - 684 mmcm, to Slovakia – 3,811 mmcm, to Hungary - 1,617 mmcm.
Gas withdrawal from Ukrainian underground storage (UGS) facilities in February amounted to 2.9 bcm, 2.5 times up than in February 2019, which is the highest indicator in the last 8 years. This is reported by the press service of Ukrtransgaz JSC.
At the same time, the company notes that Gas Storage Operator of Ukraine starts spring with record gas reserves in UGS facilities. As of March 1, more than 18 bcm of gas are stored in storage facilities - this is 13% higher than last year’s figure and the highest filling level over the past ten years.
In general, 10.23 bcm of gas was withdrawn from gas storage facilities since the beginning of the heating season (according to operational data).
Ukrtransgaz notes that as of March 1, foreign traders store 5.6 bcm of gas in the "customs warehouse" mode, 6.3 times up compared to the same period last year. Of these, 4.1 bcm was accumulated in the "short haul" mode.
